There are not additional parking spaces in the Plaza due to the theater renovation. The parking lot is ALWAYS full. The citizens of Poway do not want it to become high density Mira Mesa. Some of us bought here years ago, because it was the "City in the Country." Now it is a city with bad traffic, abandon office and retail stores and plans to build new and denser. If you want to improve our city, and bring commerce in, fix up the existing buildings that are vacant and entice chain and locally owned businesses back into this town. I have heard it said that Poway cannot attract good food chains because we are not "freeway adjacent." I do not believe that. There are plenty of towns in San Diego county that have nice restaurants and things to do and are several miles from the nearest freeway. If you really want to make our city better, renovate the empty retail spaces, entice new chains and entrepreneurs and local families to invest in our city, shore up our water systems' issues, and fix the traffic issues before you build another new thing. Enough is enough already. Many Poway residents are very vocal about this on social media groups - I am one of them. If our elected City Council members will not do the will of the people and insist on continuing to make Poway more like Mira Mesa, they will be voted out. And that includes Mayor Vaus as well, who likes to approve low income developments, crappy retail and other things to bring down our home values in South Poway, instead of where he lives. The applicant cites that the downsizing of the theater gives reason to demolish 65 parking spaces. Did you ever go to the "old" theater? Neither did anyone else! It was dilapidated and no one went there. However, the new theater, though smaller, has a vigerous attendance and so much so that is sometimes difficult to get tickets. Not only would theater goers be affected but numerous surrounding bussiness would suffer also. Fed-Ex is always busy, as is the Brigantine Restaurant, Starbucks, etc. If parking became difficult I would no longer frequent this plaza. Instead of Fed-Ex, I would use the post office, where I can find parking. Instead of The Brigantine, I woud go to Carmel Mountain to restaurants, where I can find parking. Instead of the Poway theater I would go to the Carmel Mountain Anjelika, where I can find parking. If you think you see a theme here, you are correct. This project would severely limit the parking availibility within the plaza, create frustration and adversely affect the business owners and revenue. I know that the city is in need of revenue but there are far better pathways than an inappropriate project such as this. Respectfully yours, ------------Sherry Harmon-Urena 3 of 3 January 21, 2020, Item #8
