Item 4 - July Fourth Fireworks DisplayMay 19, 2020, Item #4M EM ORAN DLJ M CityofPoway DATE: TO: FROM: SUBJECT: Summary: May 19, 2020 Members of the City Council Steve Vaus, Mayor July Fourth Fireworks Display ADDITIONAL MATERIALS The Poway community historically celebrates our country's independence each July Fourth by coming together to enjoy a display of fireworks which is performed from the Poway High School stadium. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has hampered our residents' ability to experience many resources, leisure activities, and events that help bind us together as a community. Rather than allowing our annual fireworks display to be just another casualty of the pandemic, I believe we should move ahead with the fireworks -though we will have to modify some aspects. While it is unlikely we'd be able to allow viewing from Poway High School stadium, there's no reason folks can't enjoy the show from their homes, our city streets and even (with staffs help to ensure proper physical distancing) from Lake Poway Park. Now, more than ever, we need something to celebrate and I can think of nothing more worthy of celebration than our country's independence and freedom. Recommended Action: I ask for Councilmembers' concurrence to direct staff to proceed with planning of a safe July Fourth Fireworks event for our community. Attachments: None.
