Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council Wendy Kaserman, Assistant City Manager i>► Wendy Kaserman, Assistant City Manager (858) 668-4502 or wkaserman@poway.org Community Contributions Program Quarterly Report Summarv: The City's Community Contributions Program provides financial support for events, programs and activities hosted by Poway non-profit, community and school groups. As part of the program, staff provides the City Council with a quarterly report about contribution requests received, approved and declined. Recommended Action: It is recommended that the City Council receive and file this report. Discussion: The City's Community Contributions Program allows non-profit, community and school groups to apply for a financial contribution from the City for events, programs and activities. The program's budget is $15,000 with a $2,500 per fiscal year cap for eligible community groups. Prior to June 2016, the City sponsored local high school Grad Nite events separately from the contributions program. Poway High received $3,000, Abraxas $500, Rancho Bernardo $500, Mount Carmel $200 and Westview $100 annually. When the program's policy was revised, Grad Nite funding was rolled into the program's overall budget. Under the program's revised criteria, only school groups representing Poway schools are eligible for financial support. Based on the new criteria, Rancho Bernardo, Mount Carmel and Westview are no longer eligible for funding. Rather than immediately suspend the City's support to these schools, the Council asked that the contribution be gradually phased out while at the same time increasing funding to Poway schools. Between February 1, 2017, and April 30, 2017, the City received two funding requests totaling $4,750. Both requests were funded. Additionally, the City received two funding requests for next fiscal year which will be considered at July 1, 2017. 1 of 2 May 16, 2017 Item # L, IS7_ Community Contributions Program February 21, 2017 Page 2 A $200 contribution was provided to Mount Carmel High School for Grad Nite.
