SUBJECT: Pomerado Hospital Traffic Signal
BACKGROUND
Based on a petition submitted by the Northern San Diego County Hospital
District in April 1982, the 1982-83 Capital Improvement budget included
a project to installa traffic signal at the intersection of Pomerado
Road with the entry into Pomerado Hospital. After an initial study, the
project design was initiated in July 1982, with the provision that the
project include traffic control for the two private driveways and the west
- side of the intersection opposite the hospital Total project costs were
estimated at that time to be $90,500, with the Hospital District approving
their contribution of $60,000 or the actual cost of the signal hardware,
whichever was greater.
FINDINGS
Pians and specifications are completed and ready for bidding, with an
estimated construction cost of $93,716 of which the traffic signal portion
is estimated to be $71,200 (Attachment 1) Total project costs, including
engineering, right-of-way documents, and contingencies are estimated at
$127,000. The City Manager's office is working with the involved parties
to finalize the mutual easement agreements.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize staff to advertise for
bids to construct.the project as designed, with a bid opening date of
March'29, 1984.
