Bowersox, City Manager ~ Niall Fritz, Director of Development servicesY January 4, 2005 ; INITIATED BY: ( DATE: SUBJECT: Acceptance of the Community Road Widening Phase 2 Project (#1280) ABSTRACT On May 20, 2003, the City Council awarded the Community Road Widening Phase 2 Project to McLaughlin Engineering & Mining Inc. in the amount of $3,946,845.00. The final contract amount was $4,144,651.15. Staff finds the project to be complete in accordance with the standards and specifications of the contract. It is recommended that the City Council approve acceptance of the project. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW The City Council approved a Mitigated Negative Declaration for this project on October 8, 2002 that adequately addressed the project impacts. No additional environmental review is required. FISCAL IMPACT There are sufficient funds in the project budget (1280) for this action. ADDITIONAL PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND CORRESPONDENCE McLaughlin Engineering & Mining, Inc. 41934 Main Street, #107, Temecula, CA 92590-2701 RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council: (1) Formally accept the Community Road Widening Phase 2 Project; (2) Authorize the City Clerk to file and record a Notice of Completion: and (3) Authorize the release of the retention for the amount of $206,004.66 if unencumbered, 40 days after filing the Notice of Completion. The project is located on Community Road, from Ketron Avenue to Aubrey Street, and includes the right-turn pocket at Twin Peaks Road and the realignment of Rattlesnake Creek. Several quantity adjustments and 17 change orders were issued for the net amount of an additional $197,806.15. FINDINGS The final contract amount was $4,144,651.15. Staff finds the project to be complete in accordance with the standards and specifications of the contract. It is recommended that the City Council approve acceptance of the project.
