SUBJECT: Award of Bid for the New Fire Training Tower Project (#5542)
ABSTRACT
Bids were opened April 20, 2005, at 4:00 P.M. Staff are currently reviewing the bids. This contract
will be awarded using the base bid amount only.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
A categorical exemption was approved for the project and no additional environmental work is
required.
FISCAL IMPACT
Findings will be provided upon bid opening and will be included in an Additional Material report prior to
this meeting date.
ADDITIONAL PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND CORRESPONDENCE
None.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council award the bid for the New Fire Training Tower to the lowest
responsible bidder in accordance with the Additional Material report for this item.

BACKGROUND
Bids were opened April 20, 2005, at 4:00 P.M. Staff are currently reviewing the bids.
This project is located at 12325 Crosthwaite Circle, in the City of Poway. A five-story
stru ctu re will be built for fire training purposes. The engineer's estimate is
$3,000,000.00 to $3,200,000.00. This contract will be awarded using the base bid
amount only.

report prior to this meeting date.

A Negative Declaration was previously issued that adequately addressed the potential
environmental impacts of the proposed development. No additional environmental
review is required.
FISCAL IMPACT
There are sufficient funds available in the project to award this contract for
$3,500,000.00. However, additional funds will be needed for the construction
management and for the consulting inspector.
