SUBJECT: I-15 Advisory Committee Appointment
Background
Assemblyman Goldsmith held an I-15 transportation forum on Monday,
February 9, 1998. The focus of this meeting was to discuss the cost
effectiveness and feasibility of the concept of managed lanes to facilitate
peak traffic volumes. This technique of moveable bar�iers is used
successfully in the region for the Coronado Bay Bridge. At the February 10,
1998, City Council meeting, Deputy Mayor Goldby discussed the forum and
requested that the City of Poway send a letter of support for the managed
lane concept. Additionally, Assemblyman Goldsmith has requested that the
City of Poway appoint a representative to an advisory committee.
Find�nas
The solution to traftic congestion along the I-15 corridor will take the
cooperetion of north county communities, MTDB, and CalTrans. The
advisory committee being formed by Assemblyman Goldsmith will be able to
build on the framework of solutions currently being considered for this vital
transportation corridor.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Council appoint a representative to the I-15
Advisory Committee.
