Subject: Council Agenda Item 8.2 - Discussion of City's Home Occupation Permit and Associated Fees
Dear Council Members,
I support the proposal by Councilman Vaus to eliminate the permits and fees currently
required by the City of Poway in association with Home Occupations.
From what I can tell - - -as someone that has such a permit - - -one is paying for the service
of having their name and business information entered and maintained in a City data
base. It's not clear to me if or how the permit helps the business owner, the citizens of
Poway, or the City of Poway. The permit process diverts time and financial resources
from the business - -- resources that could be used productively towards building the
business.
I agree that the City of Poway should encourage business and an entrepreneurial spirit
in its citizens. In addition - - -it is important to note that home based businesses have
been and will become increasingly important for retirees as a means to supplement
retirement savings and to maintain a productive and social lifestyle in retirement. This
should be encouraged.
Please support this proposal and eliminate the permits and fees associated with Home
Occupations.
