ABSTRACT
Bids were opened at 3:00 p.m. on October 26, 1994 for the pruning and maintenance of
trees in Poway's City parks and landscaped areas.
Three bids were received with Golden Bear Arborists of Monrovia being the low bidder.
It is recommended that the City Council award the City of Poway-parks and Landscape
Tree Pruning Program Contract to Golden Bear Arborists of Monrovia, California in the
amount of $18,569.00.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
It is not subject to CEQA review.

The bid amount is within budget.

SUBJECT: Award of Bid for the City of Poway-Parks and Landscape Tree
Pruning Program
BACKGROUND
Staff has completed a survey and inspection of all trees in the City Parks and
Landscape Maintenance District grounds and has developed a four year tree pruning
and maintenance program to provide proper care. Funds have been budgeted and the
tree trimming bid package was prepared and appropriately advertised to receive
bids from qualified tree trimming companies.
FINDINGS
Ten contractors attending the pre-bid meeting October 17, 1994 inspected the
trees noted in the bid specifications for pruning. Three contractors submitted
the following bids on October 26, 1994:
Golden Bear Arborists, Inc. $17,269.00
Monrovia, California
Sutton's Tree Service $34,540.00
Vista, California
Atlas Environmental Services, Inc. $23,774.00

Golden Bear Arborists, Inc. did not include the removal cost of four trees as
specified in the Addendum. After discussion with the owner of Golden Bear
Arborists, Inc., it was agreed that $1,300.00 be added to the bid price, which
was a lower line item cost for these trees than from the other two bidders,
Staff also received positive comments regarding their services from references
we contacted.

This action is not subject to CEQA review.
FISCAL IMPACT
The contract price is within the projected budget.
