SUBJECT: Design Approval of Meadowbrook Multipurpose Center
ABSTRACT
Included in the FY 1990-91 budget is $1.5 million for the
construction of a multipurpose center adjacent to Meadowbrook
Middle School. This is a joint use project with poway Unified
School District, similar to the Twin Peaks Multipurpose Center.
On January 16, 1991, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
recommended that the Council approve the design. City Council
approval is requested for project design.
- FINDINGS
City and PUSD staff have been working with the project architect,
Grant Humphrey, in the design of the Meadowbrook Multipurpose
Center. This facility, located on school property adjacent to
Meadowbrook Middle School, will be similar to the Twin Peaks
Multipurpose Center.
One important difference in the Meadowbrook facility is that
there will be no stage, which will allow for more square footage
in the playing surface. Other differences include: 1) masonry
block construction, 2) automatic bleachers, 3) larger storage and
conference rooms, 4) two scoreboards for cross court play, 5) and
additional spaces between the courts and walls/bleachers for
safety and spectator zones. Attached are the elevations, floor
plans and site plan (Exhibits A, B, and C).
The tentative date for opening the facility is september 1992.
The construction process is extended due to the approval needed
by the Office of the State Architect. Prior to opening the
facility, a joint use agreement discussing the operation of the
Center will be submitted .

The PUSD Board approved the project design on January 14, 1991.
On January 16, 1991, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
recommended that the city Coun~il approve the design of the
Meadowbrook Multipurpose Center.
FISCAL IMPACT

Funds have been budgeted for project design and construction.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT
poway Unified School District will act as lead agency for CEQA
review.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the design of
Meadowbrook Multipurpose Center.
