SUBJECT: Appropriation of Funds for various Park
Improvements
ABSTRACT
Staff is recommending that the City Council authorize the
appropriation of $9,000 from the Unappropriated Park Improvement
Fund (account 11-8930) for insta11atio~ of drinking fountain
adjacent to the new restroom at Community Park, additional sand
for the Community Park tot lot, and installation of a public
phone at Garden Road Park.
BACKGROUND
Based on requests from the City Council and the public, staff has
determined that the following non-budgeted projects are needed:
Drinkina Fountain at Community Park
Counci1member Snesko requested that staff evaluate the need for a
drinking fountain adjacent to the new restroom at Community Park.
A drinking fountain at this location is needed for people using
the softball field and basketball court.
Communi tv Park Tot Lot
Installation of the tot lot at Community Park was completed
recently. The preschool playground equipment was funded by a
grant, and is experiencing intensive use. This project involved
moving existing playground equipment, which requires the
placement of additional sand. The additional sand is not covered
under the grant funding.

Garden Road Park Phone Line
Garden Road Park is one of four sites where the city operates
after school programs. Staff has received requests from the
public for a telephone. The city has installed pay phones at
Valle Verde Park, Starridge Park, and Midland School.
FINDINGS
The cost for these park improvements has been estimated as:
drinking fountain, $2,500; tot lot sand, $2,000; Garden Road Park
phone, $3,500; and contingency $1,000.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated costs for these park improvements is $9,000 and
will be allocated from the balance in the Unappropriated Park
Improvement Fund (account 11-8930).
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council appropriate $9,000 from
the Unappropriated Park Improvement Fund (account 11-8930) for
the drinking fountain and tot lot sand at Community Park, and pay
phone at Garden Road Park.
