RE: AGENDA APRIL 1: 'Three Way Stop @ MARTINCOIT & S'T'ONE CANYON
Dear Elected Representatives,
The Green Valley Highlands homeowners association writes to oppose the propose stop
sign, but to request further city cooperation with private speed control signage. Our
association represents over 130 residences, and all of our households drivers (unlike many
in the public who have weighed in), have no choice. We must use the subject intersection to
get to and from our homes every day. Many of our residents worked for better pedestrian
access on Martincoit since it is our only link in and out. We are interested and willing to
work further to address speed control on our collector -roads in Green Valley.
We continue in our stated opposition (December 2013 resolution) to the current
recommendation to add stop signs to Martincoit at the Stone Canyon intersection. They
will not address speeding and they will make the intersection less safe than the current
stop at Stone Canyon configuration. Stacking on the S curve at Martincoit during peak
school travel times is a disaster 6 car pile -up just waiting to happen, as it is residents
traveling north on Martincoit as they approach the intersection with the shortest lines of
sight of any discussed in the report. Our local experts and residents have attended traffic
committee hearings and testified to the MUCTD regulations that are applicable here - see
attachments. Use your common sense, review the full record and you will understand that
we want to address the true problem rather than accept a false solution.
We understand that making these decisions can be some of the most perplexing of an
elected career. Many important issues come before you with less attention, but the
character of a community can be greatly altered by simple traffic control changes. Ours
was when we got a higher speed limit on Martincoit at the same time we got some long
awaited bike /pedestrian lane striping. Do not compound this error by making another.
Sincerely,
GREEN VALLEY HIGHLANDS HOA
