RESOLUTION NO. 04- 003
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA
AUTHORIZING SPONSORSHIP OF THE CITY OF POWAY TREE COMMITTEE'S
SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA RELEAF
2004 URBAN FORESTRY GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has
contracted with the National Tree Trust to implement and administer the California
ReLeaf 2004 Urban Forestry Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the maximum grant would be $7,500 and would fund planting of
large-crowning, environmentally tolerant trees in existing developed settings to provide
shade and/or other community benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Poway Tree Committee is a community-based volunteer
organization that is eligible to submit a grant application when sponsored by the City;
and
WHEREAS, if a grant is received, the Tree Committee and community volunteers
will match the grant with in-kind services including volunteer hours on the project; and
WHEREAS, the City Council designated the Poway Oak Heritage Grove on
October 22, 2002.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway
as follows:
Section 1. The City of Poway will sponsor the Tree Committee in its application
for funding from the California ReLeaf 2004 Urban Forestry Grant Program. Grant
funds would be used to purchase and plant 16 Coast Live Oaks at the Poway Oak
Heritage Grove, and to partially pay for the cost of producing and placing an interpretive
monument sign at the poway Oak Heritage Grove.
Section 2. If recommended for a grant award by California ReLeaf, the City
Council authorizes the appropriation of the grant amount, $7,500, from the General
Fund Unappropriated Fund Balance, to be repaid by the grant.
Section 3. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and empowered to
execute in the name of the City of Poway all necessary documents to implement and
carry out the purpose of this Resolution, and to undertake all actions necessary to
undertake and complete the projects.
