RESOLUTION NO. 04- 038
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY,
CALIFORNIA ADOPTING THE 1ST LIGHT ARMORED RECONNAISSANCE
BATTALION, OF THE 1ST MARINE DIVISION
WHEREAS, the United States suffered a tragic terrorist attack on
September 11, 2001, which has necessitated the use of military force on the part
of the United States Armed Services to protect the security of the American
people; and
WHEREAS, our American military forces remain engaged in defending
and supporting American interest and principles; and
WHEREAS, the "American Supporting Americans" program was created
on March 4, 1968, to provide a mechanism whereby all branches of the United
States Armed Services would be "adopted" by an American city; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the adoption program is to bond American
communities with the military men and women who bravely serve their country in
a show of moral support with no political ties; and
WHEREAS, there are currently cities in 22 states that have adopted more
than 100 active units of all branches of the services; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the challenges which lie ahead with
America's "War on Terror", it is appropriate and fitting that the City of Poway
show its support of the men and women who serve in the military by adopting the
1 sl Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, of the 1 sl Marine Division.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Poway does hereby adopt and offer its on going respect and support for the 1s1
Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, of the 1s1 Marine Division.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council designates VFW Post
7907 as the official liaison for the City of Poway in the efforts to support the 1sl
Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, of the 1s1 Marine Division. The City of
Poway hereby encourages all City employees, City businesses, service clubs,
schools, and private citizens to become involved in this effort to support our men
and women in the armed services.
