SUBJECT: Construction Change Order for Midland Road and
Twin Peaks Road Traffic Signal
BACKGROUND
-on February 25, 1986, the Poway Redevelopment Agency awarded the
contract for this project to William J. Kirchnavy Construction, Inc.
The original design of the traffic signal, whish began over a year
ago, did not include the provision of Left -turn arrows, because
the width of Twin Peaks Road to the west was inadequate to allow
the extra lane needed for a left -turn pocket. Now, with the im-
minent construction of a widened Twin Peaks Road, staff feels that
the installation of the left -turn arrows would be more economical now`
than performing the work with the.Twin Peaks project later. It :would
also keep the disturbance to the new traffic signal at a minimum
when.Twin Peaks Road is widened.
The contractor has given a proposal. of $`5732.61 for the additional
work needed for the proposed changes.
FINDINGS
The cost of $5732.61 for the proposed left -turn control equipment
is a reasonable addition to this contract. Money is currently avail—
able to pay for the change in the project account

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Poway Redevelopment Agency authorize a
change order in the amount of $5732.61 for the installation of
left -turn arrows at the Twin Peaks and Midland Road traffic signal
