Subject: POWAY COMMONS and
NO HIGH RISES. NO MORE CONGESTION. NO MORE CRIME. NO MORE RODENTS. NO MORE
NOISE.
Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councilmembers,
How are you doing? I’m feeling better after speaking with some of my neighbors yesterday. What a
wonderful group of people. I am so lucky to live in the neighborhood I do. And yes, you are lucky to
represent such great people
I spoke with a lovely lady who had broken her wrist when she was volunteering while handing out water at
City Hall. I spoke with a multi-generational home that is doing their laundry at the laundromat to reduce
the cost of their water bill. Another family is working two shifts to afford their rent and water bills. They had
their car broken into. Myself, I had things stolen from my yard and a homeless person use my jacuzzi. I
spoke with more than one resident living adjacent to Poway Rd. commercial properties who are plagued
with rats. Another household closer to the park is battling gophers. One gentleman’s property is being
flooded every time it rains because of the poorly constructed retaining wall. (This wall is the one that is
adjacent to the Ilene St. residences and goes along the commercial property that includes Poway Fun
Bowl.)
I would visit with more of my neighbors today but I’m volunteering at the PAC. I am here to report to
you, that no one wants 3 and 4 story buildings. I have attached a letter that a few citizens signed
with our objections. Hopefully someone can bring it Tuesday evening.
I am also pleased to report that two Councilmembers have already responded to my email Friday.
In my neighborhood you’ll find the lowest-priced Poway properties, higher incidents of crime,
homelessness and no one famous lives here. However, you will find the most AMAZING people. They are

smart, law-abiding, giving and caring people. They deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. Please
protect us and keep the integrity of our space. Build 1- 2 story buildings, no flood lights and strong,
tall block walls to separate the developments from our neighborhood.
Thank you for doing your due diligence and representing one of the most amazing communities on earth.
Cordially,
Kathy Latus

P.S. I attached the letters to make it easier to printout.
FYI- I have bcc'd some of my neighbors who want to remain anonymous.

Re: Meridian Development Poway Commons and Fairfield Poway Rd. Mixed Use Development
Dear Poway City Council,
This letter is addressed to you from the friendly neighborhood surrounding the two new developments
you have planned.
Naturally we are not happy about the height of these projects. Four stories? Really? Our homes are one
story dwellings. Would you reconsider making the buildings two-stories?
We chose to live in Poway for the safe high-quality living environment for ourselves and our families.
Please protect us with the tallest and most solid wall around these communities.
We demand that you protect us. An 8’ block wall is planned to separate The Poway Commons and our
community park. The upstanding citizens of our community that have lived in our neighborhood should
have no less. Make the wall separating the Poway Commons and our residential neighborhood the same
8’ block wall.
We are concerned with the added noise, traffic, crime, pests, privacy invasion and light pollution.
Please do all that you can to decrease these situations. Our neighborhood is already plagued with an
increase in crime, drugs and homeless because of the Community Park and the several low-income
housing developments you built surrounding it.
Please help keep our wonderful neighborhood a neighborhood with the following:
Shorter buildings
Solid Walls
Wide Easements
Big trees to block visibility on both sides.
Any anything else you can think of.
Thank you for your time and consideration on this quality of life changing developments.

Subject: Poway Commons Considerations
Hello Mr. Mayor and Councilmembers,
A lot of your citizens are upset about how you are disregarding them. My neighbors and I are busy
making a living and unfortunately don't have time to fight.
I commute to Irvine every day and it is nearly impossible for me to make a council meeting so I am writing
you all a letter.
Hopefully it will be listened to.
Please see my letter attached.
Thank you for any favorable considerations to the surrounding residents of the TWO HUGE
developments you are planning.
I love my home and my town. Poway Strong!
Regards,
Kathy Latus

Re: Meridian Development Poway Commons
Sound • Safety • Privacy • Longevity
Dear Poway City Council,
You have planned a lot of construction and building that affects my property and my neighbors.
I am greatly disappointed in the height of the projects for example three stories in my backyard and four stories in
my neighbors' backyards.
Would you like a four-story building adjacent to your fence in your yard? I think not. You already put all the low-
income housing projects in our neighborhood. Why don't you just offer to relocate us in another section of Poway so
we can continue to enjoy the quality of life that we have chosen in our great city. Or give us a property tax break?
There should be some kind of compensation for ruining our little haven. For me it would be nice if you could take
down the menacing trees that you planted on the easement in front of my home.
The Poway Commons development will significantly drop our property value and lower our quality of life.
Increased noise • Increased traffic • Increased light • Increased crime •. Increased Drug Trafficking •
Increased rodent population • Invasion of privacy
I have met with Guy Asaro to review what has been planned. It is my understanding that any objections are futile at
this point. All that is left to decide is what kind of trees will be planted.
I am requesting the same 8 foot block wall separating the Community Park from the Poway Commons
continue all around where the Poway Commons and residential property line up. You are using a block wall to
protect the residences of Poway Commons from the park. Why won’t you protect the residences in my
neighborhood as well? The plan is for a cheap wooden fence. This kind of fence lets noise, water, wind and light
through. Not to mention termites will have a field day with it.
I have lived at my property for 28 years. Some of my neighbors have lived here longer. We have always had
problems with criminals, vagrants, teenagers climbing over our fences into our yards from the adjacent lots. To
protect your citizens in our neighborhood, there should be the best possible wall feasible. If an 8 foot wall block wall
is planned for the community park, then it should be the same for the residences as well.
I would also like you to consider putting some SPACE in between this proposed condo development and my
backyard. It is my understanding that a wall will butt right up to my block wall. Extremely invasive. Three stories
of peeping Tom’s to look directly into my home.
My past experience with the council for plans proposed has been that my voice and my neighbors’ voices are not
considered. The last initiative I protested was the water increases. You had already decided that you were going to
increase the rates instead of finding the lost revenue due to the drought from another source. The good people who
have made this community so special won’t be able to afford to live here much longer if you keep raising the basic
necessities. But this letter is not to talk about other issues, it is to address the Poway Commons project.
Thank you for consideration.
Sincerely,
Kathy latus

Subject: Meridian Development Poway Commons and Mixed Use Development
Dear City Council Members,
I am writing you to share my concerns with the Poway Commons Project. As a
former renter as of one year ago, I am sensitive to our county's need for
affordable housing. With that said, I would respectfully and
vehemently disagree with the location and scale of this project.
Poway and does NOT have the infrastructure, public transit, and alternate
routes to prevent the nightmarish traffic this development will bring upon our
city. Poway Road is already incredibly congested with locals and commuters to
and from neighboring areas including Ramona. Even with the current
apartments on Oak Knoll and Carriage, the residents park illegally, blocking
driveways, intersections, and fire hydrants DAILY and our City doesn't have the
resources to enforce the law. How will introducing hundreds more residents
going to change that? If your intent is to take away Poway's landmarks, our
small town charm, and safety, to turn Poway into the new MIRA MESA with the
congestion of Mira Mesa Blvd., building this project will achieve just that.
I would like to ask each of you to please be honest and ask yourself if you
would like to add 15-20 minutes to your commute, if you would like to have a
large housing project obstruct the view from your home, and if you'd like your
property value decrease from the noise, crime, and illegal street parking?
We saved for over 20 years to purchase a home in Poway, as opposed to other
neighborhoods, in pursuit of the American Dream. I am sincerely asking that
you please don't take this away from my Family and consider building this
development elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Ron Collazo
