There JOINT MEETING WITH ARTS ALIVE! FOUNDATION FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Director of Community Services Thomas introduced Philip Butzen, Chairman of the Arts Alive! Foundation for the Performing Arts {formerly Poway Foundation for the Performing Arts). Mr. Butzen introduced the foundation members in attendan- ce: Allan Royster, James T. "Tim" McCarthy, Dick Oliver, and Ann Kennedy. Dr. Frank Goldsmith, Chairman for the Performing Arts Advisory Committee, was also present. Mr. Butzen stated that the Foundation has assumed the on-going fund raising responsibilities following the end of the Capital Campaign fund raising phase. The Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation with the primary pur- pose of ensuring the long-term financial stability of the Center. He also announced the recent selection of the name Arts Alive! Foundation for the Performing Arts {AAFPA) replacino Poway Foundation for the Performing Arts. 4218 Page 2 - CITY OF POWAY ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING - June 13, 1991 Tim McCarthy, Chairman of the Foundation's long range planning committee, pre- sented their proposed multi-year business plan covering fiscal years 1991-92 through 1995-96. Their goal is to provide more than half of the operating defi- cit of the Center by the fifth year. Dick Oliver, Chairman of the Foundation's membership program, presented the ini- tial membership drive targeting geographic areas in closest proximity to the Center. He stated that the direct mail campaign will start in June. They discussed the impacts of Escondido's performing arts facility which is in the planning stages; including areas not presently targeted for direct mail, such as Ramona, Mira Mesa, Sabre Springs, Carmel Mountain Ranch, and Rancho Penasquitos; use of a Poway return address for direct mail materials; a city- wide assessment district for recreation; building a potential donor data base from attendees at Center events; linking fund raising efforts with library; and sponsoring an annual college competition/scholarship event.
