CC 2006 05-09 CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MAY 9,2006 The May 9, 2006, Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Poway, was called to order at 7:10p.m. by Mayor Cafagna at the Community Park Auditorium, 13094 Civic Center Drive, Poway, California, for a Town Hall Meeting. COUNCILMEMBERS PRESENT Merrilee Boyack, Bob Emery, Don Higginson, Betty Rexford and Mickey Cafagna COUNCILMEMBERS ABSENT None STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Rod Gould Penny Riley Lisa Foster Diane Shea Niall Fritz Jim Howell David Narevsky Tina White Mark Sanchez Charlie Campe Kristen Crane Paolo Romero City Manager Assistant City Manager City Attorney City Clerk Director of Development Services Director of Public Works Redevelopment Manager Director of Administrative Services Director of Safety Services Sheriff's Captain Assistant to the City Manager Management Assistant PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Deputy Mayor Rexford led the pledge of allegiance. MEETING INTRODUCTION Mayor Cafagna welcomed the attendees and gave an overview of the meeting agenda. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mayor Cafagna explained the procedures for Public Oral Communications. The following people spoke: Kathy Horman, Poway, spoke on the activities of Poway Girls Softball League at Aubrey Park and the increased traffic and noise to the surrounding neighbors. 8638 Page 2- CITY OF POWAY - May 9,2006 Matt Carpenter, Poway, had concerns with the Sheriff's Department and their inaction relating to crimes in his neighborhood. Donald Pagliaro, shared his same concerns with crimes in his neighborhood and the Sheriff's Department not dealing with the problems. Jan Behrhorst, Poway, asked if the CERT program would become available in Poway. Bill Fay, Poway, complimented the Council and staff on doing a great job with the traffic. BREAK-OUT SESSIONS Two 30-minute break-out sessions were held on the following subjects: Fire Safety, Law Enforcement, and Traffic. All three topics were repeated during both sessions. Each topic was discussed in a separate area. Attendees were able to rotate between the topics they chose. Staff provided brief presentations at each session and opened the sessions up to discussion, questions and comments. Staff compiled a list of concerns expressed by the public. REPORTS TO CITY COUNCIL FROM BREAK-OUT SESSIONS Sheriff's Captain Charlie Campe, Director of Safety Services Mark Sanchez, and Senior Planner Jason Martin provided oral summary reports on issues that came out of the six break- out sessions. CLOSING COMMENTS BY THE CITY COUNCIL Mayor Cafagna stated the information received from each break-out session would be compiled into a report and provided to the City Council for review. The Mayor and City Council members thanked the community for attending the meeting and for their important feedback.
