The Poway Road development is an example as well as the Amazon warehouse atop a ridge line of this unchecked development approval from the current City Council. These projects happened on this City Council's watch and with their acquiescence. We, the Poway residents, need to have some way to slow this rapid turning of our empty lots and acreage into high density projects such as are being approved. The Poway Specific plan was developed to allow moderate, balanced and well thought out development, such that would continue to keep the delicate balance of "reasonable". There is an important difference in allowing one hotel to have a variance from the plan and amending the plan. I strongly object to an amendment that would allow speedy approval of yet more dense development and loss of our space. Please would you read this email at the meeting? We have family arriving today from the East Coast with grandchildren and our children. Otherwise I would attend this meeting in person to ask to speak or would attend through Zoom. Anil presented his plans to the Board at our September 2019 meeting and answered many questions from our Board members regarding plan specifics, potential conflicts or issues, and market opportunities. Anil has also provided updates since that time. We are more than satisfied that Anil has done his research on the demand for a hotel at this location and has put a great deal of consideration into the design. We are confident that with Anil's extensive hospitality experience, Serendipity Hospitality will build a high-quality property designed to fit well with the landscape and character of the City of Poway and will meet a critical demand for hotel accommodations in the community.
