Item 9 - Town Center Arch Entry Sign1 of 1August 3, 2021, Item #9M EMQRAN DLJ M City of Poway DATE: TO: FROM: SUBJECT: Summary: August 3, 2021 Members of the City Council Deputy Mayor Barry Leonard Council member Caylin Frank Town Center Arch Entry Sign Poway is home to many civic and service organizations that take pride in being an important part of our community. Recently, the Poway Valley Garden Club began discussing the formation of a community fundraising campaign to build a welcome arch across Poway Road. We believe this is very compatible with the goals set forth in the Poway Road Specific Plan, which was created to re-envision Poway Road as a thriving destination for residents and visitors alike. Bringing a welcome arch to the heart of Poway Road is an opportunity to showcase our city's civic pride and philanthropic nature. The Town Center, identified as the areas around Civic Center Drive and Poway Road, would be an ideal location to welcome drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to our city. This is also the gateway to our brand new Mickey Cafagna Community Center, Poway Swim Center and Community Park, the heart of our parks system. Recommended Action: We are asking for council consensus to support the concept of a Poway welcome arch and the community fundraising effort. We are also asking the mayor to create a council subcommittee to work with the Poway Valley Garden Club and other organizations to bring this vision to fruition.
