An LRSP is a plan for how to address unique safety needs within the community. An LRSP will be required for future grant funding such as Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grants. Staff recently submitted for the last cycle of HSIP grants that can be approved without an LRSP in place. The California Traffic Commission allocated $10 million in 2019 and another $8 million in 2020 for assisting local agencies in developing LRSPs. The funds are first come first served with applications accepted until the funding is no longer available. In mid-November staff submitted the LRSP grant application and this week staff learned that the grant has been approved. The grant will cover up to 90% of the cost to prepare the LRSP. The calculated project cost for the grant application is $52,000 with a City match of $6,000. Staff will now begin the process of requesting the allocation of state funds and initiating the development of the LRSP.
