We have spent over $30,000 on solar to help manage our electric bill. Now the water? This is becoming unmanageable. We adamantly oppose the water rate increases. Learn why this is important Good afternoon, I was told by the water dept services inside City Hall today that if you live in the Poinsettia Family and Senior Mobile Home Parks that we are only allowed ONE total water rate hike (Prop 218) protest vote which the mobile home park has to send in. We have 137 spaces in the family park and 124 spaces in the senior park for a total of 262 spaces/homes and that the 262 homeowners are reduced to ONE vote total instead of a possible 262 votes! All of us in the parks pay property taxes and have individual water meters for which we are billed the water rates you decide! This is very dishonest of you not allowing hundreds of people's protest vote to count even though we own our homes and are included in this insane rate hike. I'm sure the other mobile home parks in Poway are getting the one vote total for ALL their homes too. What is wrong with you? How do you expect seniors and others on a fixed income to pay these outandish rates that you are proposing? Why don't you care? Some of the reasons we want to protest the hike are: 1. No one we know gets a 10% raise every year for the next 4 years to help pay for this! 2. The City of Poway took millions of dollars from the water and sewer funds and never paid it back! 3. The city dings the water and sewer funds for a portion of the costs to pay the salaries/benefits of the mayor and city council manager, asst. city manager, city attorney, city clerk,staff in the city clerk's office, finance dept people, AND the people working in the HR dept!!!! 4. Since this is a fixed rate hike we will be charged this huge increase even if we don't use ANY water! 5. We are paying for all the new pipes needed for the NEW developments! (Developement that many of us did not want.) 6. We are paying for YOUR mistake of leaving a rope in the valve of the clear well. 7. We are paying for some of the City's sewer and water bills. This VIOLATES Prop 218 because Prop 218 says the city can only charge us for what it costs to bring water and sewer service to our individual homes! 8. We are investing $70million in a system that is going to run out of water. The woman at the water dept today said to send an email to Nicole (I don't have her email address) and to go to the City Council meeting. In the past we feel that our (and other people's emails) have been a waste of time because you all have already made up your minds and do what you want anyway. Please do NOT approve this water/sewer rate hike you are proposing. People are going to suffer if it passes. Thank you. Sandy and Bob Casey 1
