Learn why this is important EXTgR 1,t-\L MAIL Good afternoon Scott, Thank you for speaking with me earlier today regarding tonight's workshop. I am a long time homeowner on Silver Ridge directly across from the citrus grove. We have enjoyed the open space very much over the years having spent many hours in that area with our children and pets. Having reviewed your report for the project, I believe the best option for the Silver Ridge grove is the full re-landscape. Despite the city's efforts via posting of "No Loitering" and "No Fruit Picking" signs, there have been numerous instances of people stealing the fruit and also loitering groups throwing fruit at passing cars and homes along the street. We have contacted the Sheriff several times about these instances over the years. Leaving the grove as it is makes no financial sense for the city. I believe turning the grove into a park would lead to more instances of loitering and thereby increasing the likelihood of vandalism in the surrounding area. I am willing to participate in a community based group to assist with the analysis and evaluation of the options available to the city for repurposing the groves. I earn why this is important •X1'CRNAL ~ IAIL Hello COP City Council, My name is Laurel Acosta. I am a resident of Poway now 24 years. My husband Paul and I live behind the Adobe Ridge Road Park to the south. Address is 12310 Kozy Crest Lane Poway, CA 92064 Phone is ■■- 1 am not able to attend the council meeting today but wanted you to receive my input regarding the Adobe Ridge Grove, Silver Ridge Grove and Ted Williams Grove. Please see my attachment below and contact me if I can help or have questions. Thank you, Laurel Acosta 3 of6 February 15, 2022, Item #16 2-15-2022 Poway City Council Item #16 Laurel B. Acosta 12310 Kozy Crest Lane ■■- Regarding Adobe Ridge Grove My suggestions are: 1. I like the lemon Grove as it promotes bees and is kept up fairly well and does produce fruit. It is on drip irrigation. Try to provide less water, they are tough trees. 2. There is an SDG&E easement all the way back to the open space at the West end so houses could NOT be built in the past. IF SDG&E would allow the city to build houses; for fire safety, I would request that the City of Poway bring a water main in from the West end of Kozy Crest Lane as part of it. Kozy Crest Lane has a dirt street and is just South of Adobe Ridge Road and parallels it. 3. Remove just enough of the Lemon trees (Leave a row along the street) and place Community Pickleball Courts (3 courts fit on a regulation size basketball court) Easy upkeep. No watering. Great for the neighborhood community. 4. NO BMX or SKATEBOARDS TOO NOISY-Walking path OK Don't bring bathrooms or water source as this is a neighborhood park not a city park. Silver Ridge Grove I'm not sure what this Grove in Poway is like other than what is in this report. Seems like a lot of money and no help to the local neighborhood with any kind of park or walkway. (Pickleball is again a very nice option not needing to be watered!) Ted Williams Parkway -Grapefruit on North side 1. Trees do not appear to be happy. 2. I see water CONSTANTL YTRICKLING TO THE POINT OF MOSS GROWING IN THE CEMENT DRAINAGE DITCHES. WHAT A WASTE! A not much fruit! Maybe turn North side into solar panels for Fire Dept? -Grapefruit on South side 1. They look terrible leave what is there and put native seeds and just allow to go native. 4 of6 February 15, 2022, Item #16 From: debsweeney1@cox.net Sent: Monday, February 14, 2022 6:10 PM City Clerk To: Subject: Tue Feb. 15 City Council Meeting Agenda item# 16 -Adobe Ridge, Silver Ridge, and Ted Williams Parkway Groves Workshop Attachments: 2022 02 Proposal for lemon grove area of Adobe Ridge.docx Categories: Public Response -Agendas I You don't often get email from debsweeneyl@cox.net. Learn why this is important EXTERNAL EMAIL To: cityclerk@poway.org Subject: Tue Feb. 15 City Council Meeting Agenda item# 16 -Adobe Ridge, Silver Ridge, and Ted Williams Parkway Groves Workshop Dear Poway City Council, This email is regarding the lemon groves in the Adobe Ridge Mini Park known as the "Adobe Ridge Grove". As a person who was living in the Adobe Ridge neighborhood when the park area was being planned in 1993, was a participant in the meetings regarding the park, and has immensely enjoyed the park since it opened July 1994, I appreciate the opportunity to, once again, have input into what happens to my little park. As much as I enjoy the sight of all the lemon trees, I understand that with the cost of water as it is, keeping fill the trees does not make good financial sense. I have a vision: 1. Keep at least one row of trees on the entire south edge of the grove. This would be alongside the backyards of the homes on Cozy Crest, not along Adobe Ridge Road. o Reason: To maintain privacy for the residents whose backyards abut the park and to provide the residents on Adobe Ridge Road and park visitors a hard block from seeing into their backyards 2. Plant one or two drought-tolerant willowy trees (such as the type of tree that is at the east edge of the park) closer to the mid-to western-side of the current grove area. A tree such as an Australian Willow or a similar weeping tree in the Acacia family would be drought tolerant and a beautiful addition to the park. o Reason: To provide a naturally shady and quiet spot on a hot summer day away from the playground equipment. 3. Under the tree(s), provide a bench. o Reason: A bench in the shade of a willowy tree to sit and watch the sunset would be a beautiful and peaceful addition to the park. 4. Add a single walking path, similar to what Silverset Park has, using crushed gravel for the path and either concrete or timbers for the borders. o Reason: Expanding the useful area of our park with a low-cost solution is a win-win. 5. Use a thick layer of hardscape in the rest of the area where the lemon trees are being removed. o Reason: A thick layer of hardscape will prevent weeds from growing. 1 5 of6 February 15, 2022, Item #16 What I would not like to see happen to that area of the property: 1. More children's playground equipment. o Reason: We have plenty of equipment for the families of our little neighborhood. Adding more may encourage more people from outside the neighborhood. When the park was planned initially, it was to be a "mini-park" for the neighborhood and as to not encourage huge crowds, it was kept small with no bathrooms or water fountains. 2. Any type of teen/adult play equipment. I know one person thought a pickleball court would be a fun addition. o Reason: It would not be fun for the neighbors whose houses abut that part of the park or for the neighbors across from the park who live on Adobe Ridge Road to have anything noisy added such as a pickleball court and certainly not bike/skateboard ramps. 3. Replacing the trees with a native plant seed mix. a. Reason: As the native plants grow, I see it as an area that would encourage wildlife such as coyotes and bobcats to live. This would be too close to where people walk with their dogs for this to be safe. It also seems that if it isn't properly maintained, weeds could easily take over. As for building houses on the five lots currently being taken up by the grove. I am neither for this or against it. If houses were to be built, I would hope they would match the houses we currently have in the neighborhood so that the continuity of the neighborhood would be maintained. Thank you all so much for affording me this opportunity to provide you with my input. Sincerely, Deb Sweeney 14869 Sunrise Drive 858-748-7826 858-437-1545 6 of6 2 February 15, 2022, Item #16
