RESOLUTION NO 08-026
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY'COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF POWAY" CALIFORNIA
ENCOURAGING RESiDENTS TO USE REUSABLE BAGS
WHEREAS, in the United States alone, an estimated 12,000,000 barrels of oil
are required to produce the 100 billion plastic bags used annually; and
WHEREAS, plastic bags are perceived as disposable, and often wind up in the
landfill or as litter, instead of being recycled; and
WHEREAS, reusable bags offer a practical solution to the problems associated
with the use of plastic bags, and
WHEREAS, many of the grocery stores in Poway provide reusable bags for
consumers to purchase, and
WHEREAS, American cities and countries around the world are addressing the
problem of plastic bags.
NOW THEREFORE, BE iT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Poway hereby encourages residents to use reusable bags when shopping, in an effort
to create a greener Poway
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APRROVED by the City Council of the City of Poway at
the regular meeting this 6th day of May 2008
