RESOLUTION NO 08-075
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA,
SUPPORTING THE SAN DIEGO REGIONAL FIRE PROTECTION AGENCY
PROPERTY TAX ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS, on March 2008, Ron Roberts, San Diego County Supervisor, and
Jerry Sanders, City of San Diego Mayor, established a committee then known as the
Regional Fire Protection Committee Their objective was to identify what was needed
throughout the County of San Diego to improve the ability to respond to and mitigate
significant urban interface wildfires, and
WHEREAS, in mid June 2008, the Committee requested assistance from the
San Diego County Fire Chiefs and San Diego County Fire Districts Association to
determine the fire needs of the county This request was transitioned to the presidents
of both organizations leading the negotiations to substantially modify the Committee's
recommendations and the proposed property tax ordinance, and
WHEREAS, the San Diego County Fire Chiefs and the San Diego Fire Districts
Association conducted a survey asking if the presidents of those organizations should
be supporting signatures to the property tax that will be on the November 2008 ballot.
The majority of the voting jurisdictions supported the signing of the ballot measure, and
WHEREAS, the City of Poway supports the ordinance and sees the need to
educate the public on this issue giving them the facts and encouraging them to vote
their conscience
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway
as follows
Section 1 To support the Ordinance to Improve and Enhance Firefighting
Resources and Serves by Adoption of a Regional and Local Fire Protection Parcel Tax
Section 2. To encourage the San Diego County Fire Chiefs and San Diego
Fire Districts Association to provide support to the ordinance and provide educational
information to the public while encouraging voters to make their own choice regarding
the ordinance
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Poway
at a regular meeting this 23rd day of September, 2008
