RESOLUTION NO 08-079
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE
TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF THE INCREASE IN COMPENSATION
FOR THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, a weak US economy, falling home values, consumers' inability to
access credit, and declining sales tax activity have hurt City revenues, and
WHEREAS, on September 23, 2008, the City Council reviewed $1,095,930 in
proactive budget adjustments, and
WHEREAS, all economic indicators point to serious financial stress for at least two
more years
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway as
follows.
Section 1 The foregoing recitals are hereby fully incorporated herein by this reference
and are deemed a material part of this Resolution.
Section 2: The City Council of the City of Poway hereby approves temporarily
suspending the following City Code provision as follows
A. Poway Municipal Code section 2.04020 City Council Compensation The
compensation increase imposed by Ordinance No 672 and codified at PMC section
2.04 020 (A) with regard to compensation for the City Council is hereby suspended for a
period of twenty-four (24) months from the effective date of this Resolution. All other
provisions of PMC section 2.04 020 shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 3 Notwithstanding any other provision of this Resolution, the City Council
reserves the right to terminate, at any time, the twenty-four (24) month suspension period
set forth in Section 2 herein. Any such termination shall be by majority vote of the City
Council at a duly held City Council meeting
Section 4 This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by the City
Council of the City of Poway, California
