Res 08-081 RESOLUTION NO. 08-081 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A REVISED COMPENSATION PLAN AND REVISED CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONS FOR FIRE MANAGEMENT CLASSIFICATIONS WHEREAS, classification and compensation plans are fluid and dynamic and should be studied and revised periodically; and WHEREAS, the City of Poway last conducted a comprehensive classification and compensation study in 2001; and WHEREAS, the City of Poway has conducted a current study; and WHEREAS, the current study resulted in necessary revisions to the City's classification and compensation plan; and WHEREAS, the City Council approved classification specifications for Management/Confidential and Non-Safety employees on October 7, 2008. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway as follows: Section 1. The above recitals are true and correct Section 2. The Teamsters and Management/Confidential classifications recommended for salary increase (Exhibit A) are approved effective December 1, 2008. Section 3. The Teamsters and Management/Confidential classifications recommended for Y-Rating (Exhibit B) are approved effective December 1, 2008. Section 4. The recommended employee reclassifications are shown in Exhibit C and are subject to City Manager approval. Section 5. The classification specifications, also known as job descriptions, for Fire Department management classifications, are approved immediately and are on file in the Administrative Services Department. Of those 74 surveyed, we narrowed our benchmarks to these 22 due to the availability of statistically valid and comparable information from other agencies. When comparing job classifications, we compared positions that are substantially similar. Regardless of similarities, there wi1/ be some variation in duties and responsibilities. For this reason, a deviation of +/- 5% is considered acceptable when comparing salaries.
