A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA
ESTABLISHING A POLICY REGARDING THE
PURCHASE OF GOODS AND SERVICES FROM
BUSINESSES WITHIN THE CITY
WHEREAS, it is the City Council's desire to support the local business
community whenever possible; and
WHEREAS, supporting the local business community is generally beneficial
to the economic interest of the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce, Governmental Affairs Committee, has
passed a resolution requesting that the City purchase goods and services
from local merchants whenever possible; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerde h~s ~cknowledged that the local business
community has a responsibility to ensure that City purchasing officials
are kept aware of what goods and services are available, within the
City; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce realizes that the primary objective of
the Purchasing Division is to ensure that the City purchases items as
cost effectively as possible; and '-
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the local business community to help
City officials keep the cost of government down by providing goods and
services to the City at a reasonable cost.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Poway
as follows:
That City officials shall attempt to purchase goods and services
within the City of Poway whenever it is practical and economically
justifiable to do so.

2. That City officials shall attempt to notify all appropriate local
businesses of requests for bids and proposals, and shall send a
copy of all formal bids and proposals to the Chamber of Commerce so
that they can help to ensure businesses are kept informed.
That the Purchasing Manager shall attempt to make contact with local
merchants when purchasing goods and services so that the local
merchant has an opportunity to quote on items the City is purchasing.
4. That the Poway Unified School District shall also be requested to
adopt a policy of purchasing locally whenever practical to doso.
