Res 83-060RESOLUTION NO. 83-060 A RESOU3TION OF THE CITY fI/3NCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CAT.T~ORNIA, NAMING A PREVIOUSLY UNNA_N~D GEOGRAPHICAL SITE AS M~. VAN DAM IN H]NOROF~R. &~S. ~DVANDAM WHEREAS, M~ry Frank was born in 1890 and moved to Poway in 1893, 90 years ago; and WHEREAS, after graduating frc~ Escondido High School and San Diego Normal School, Mary Frank taught school in San Diego County and Imperial Valley; and WHEREAS, she met ~d Van Dam in 1917 in Imperial Valley, they married in 1919 and returned to Poway in 1921; and WHEREAS, Mr. Van Dam served as County Superintendent of Roads frc~ 1933 to 1961, and Mrs. Van Dam taught school to two generations of Powegians; and WHEREAS, ~d and Mary Van Dam are an integral part of the history of Poway and it is the desire of this City Council to nan~ a previously unnamed peak in their honor. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Poway that: 1. The peak, whose crest is at elevation 1,038 feet, located north of Poway Road, west of Pcmerado Road, in the north half of the southwest quarter of Section 15, is hereby designated as Mt. Van Dam. 2. The City Clerk is directed to c~unicate this action to the appropriate County, State and Federal mapping agencies and to the United States Board of Geographic Names.
