PROVIDING FOR AN AMENDMENT
TO BE MADE IN THE M~ORANDUM CF USI)ERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CITY OF POW~Y
~{EREAS, representatives of the City of Poway and the representatives of the
Poway Firefighters Association have met and conferred on payment of the uniform
allowance; and
WHRREAS, they have jointly agreed to an amendment to the Msmorandum of
Understanding dated July 1, 1983; and
WI~EREAS, the City Council of the City of Poway desires to adopt said
amendment.
NC~, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PGWAY, CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY ~RqOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
That the Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of
Poway and the Poway Firefighters Association, which has ~cn affixed to this
resolution and marked Attachment "A" is hereby adopted.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Po~ay,
California at a regular meeting thereof this 18th day of September, 1984.

AN AMENUMENT TO THE
M~dORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
THE POWAY FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION
AND THE CITY OF POW~Y
At the request of the Poway Firefighters Association (Association), represen-
tatives of the City of Poway (City) and the Association met and conferred in
good faith, as provided in Government Code Sections 3500 through 3510, to deve-
lop an amendment to the current Memorandum of Understanding regarding Article 9,
Section 2, Uniforms and Equilanent.
It is understood by both parties that the City had no obligation to m~ct and
confer with the Association during the life of an existing Memorand~n of
Understanding. That said m~ctings were held and the resulting amendment agreed
to in an effort to prc{note full c~t,,~unications between the parties and to
resolve concerns the Association had regarding the uniform allowance.
This amendment is intended to supersede in its entirety Article 9, Section 2 of
the Memorandum of Understanding dated July 1, 1983, between the City and the
Association. It is hereby agreed that Article 9, Section 2 shall be amended to
read as follows:
ARTICLE 9. SERVICE AND SPHEIAL PAY
Section 2. Uniforms and Equi~anent
The City will provide all uniforms that are required by the City in accor-
d_m_nce with the following:
An annual clothing and safety equil~nent allowance of $200 will be
granted to all 112 hour bi-weekly ~nployees on or about July 31 of each
year for the purchase and replacement of the uniforms and safety equip-
ment listed in item E.
Any new 112 hour bi-weekly employee that is hired following the
beginning of a fiscal y~mr shall be granted a uniform allowance
prorated on the basis of the number of days remaining in the fiscal
year. The amount of the allowance sba] l be calculated by multiplying
$200 times a factor created by dividing the number of days remaining in
the fiscal y~mr by 365. The amount calculated shall be paid to the new
employee following the ~,l~loyee's cu~pletion of the first full bi-
weekly pay period.

Safety clothing required in the performance of duties that is not fur-
nished by the City through the uniform allowance shall be provided by
the City. Employees shall be required to report for work in the
required unifom and shall wear the required safety clothing when per-
forming hazardous duties.
D. Standards of mintenance of uniforms and equipment shall be determined
by the City. I~mployees will be required to maintain these standards.
Uniforms and safety equipment to be purchased through the uniform
allowance includes:
1. Boots
2. Shirts
3. Pants
4. Patches
5. Coveralls
6. Jacket
7. Socks
8. Name plates
9. T-shirts
10. Belt
The undersigned, representing the City and the Association, do hereby adopt the
terms and conditions set forth in this amendment to the Memorandum of
Understanding, and recu~,~nd that the City Council and the m~mbers of the
Association approve same.
