CR(~SING THE SAN DI]~C~ - CORfI~%D0 BAY BR/I)GE
~, the San Diego - Coro~do Bay Bridge carries Interstate 5 Cuttt~/ter
traffic to Coronado, discharging it on to unimproved city streets; and
WHEREAS, the traffic volume greatly exceeded traffic forecasts e~ahling the
bridge bonds to be paid off 17 y~rs ~rly; arid
WHEREAS, the extr~ly heavy East-West ckat,t~ter traffic b~s dissected the
City of Coronado creating unforeseen health and safety problens for that
City; and
~AS, we support the fuDaa~ental right of a small city to retain its
residential character.
Nf~, THEI~FORE, ~E IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Poway,
does hereby request that the California Transportation Ou~'u~ssion rec~,.~nd and
support the retention of the presently existing toll structure for the San
Diego - CoroDaao Bay Bridge; that funds in excess of the cost of maintaining the
bridge be placed into an interest b~aring trust account to finance improvenents
accepts_hie to the City of Coronado which may be built to alleviate the bridge
created traffic problems. /~
