A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE REMOVAL OF THE
KENT SYCAMORE TREE
WHEREAS, on April 4, 2000, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 521, an
Urban Forestry Ordinance, which sets forth policies, regulations, and generally
accepted standards necessary for the planting, trimming and removal of trees; and
WHEREAS, the Urban Forestry Ordinance further establishes policies relating to
the protection of native trees and Heritage Trees in the City of Poway; and
WHEREAS, Section 12.32.040 of the Poway Municipal Code defines a Heritage
Tree as any mature tree or mature stand of trees designated by the City Council as
having historic or cultural significance; and
WHEREAS, the Poway City Council adopted Resolution No. 01 -098 on October
30, 2001 which designated the Kent Sycamore as a Heritage Tree in the City of Poway;
and
WHEREAS, Cornerstone Consulting recommended that the Kent Sycamore tree,
found to have deteriorated to the point of presenting a high risk of limb failures, be
removed to eliminate or minimize any threats to life, limb or property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway
as follows:
Removal of the Kent Sycamore tree is hereby authorized.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of
Poway, State of California, at a regular meeting this 6 th day of December 2011.
