A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA,
IN SUPPORT OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY'S EFFORTS
TO SECURE STOWE TRAIL FOR RECREATION,
CONSERVATION AND AS A WILDLIFE CORRIDOR
WHEREAS, historical documents indicate that the Stowe Trail was used to link
Santee and Poway for commerce and by residents to access local settlements, including
the community of Stowe; and
WHEREAS, the historic Stowe Trail falls within the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS)
Miramar eastern boundary, but in recent years has informally become an active and
popular multi -use trail by the public and an important wildlife corridor; and
WHEREAS, the County of San Diego seeks to formalize an agreement with the
United States Marine Corps and the Department of the Navy to establish legal and safe
access of the Stowe Trail for public recreation use and provide connections to other trails
on adjacent open space property located to the north and south; and
WHEREAS, Policy "E" of the Transportation Element of the Poway General Plan
encourages the development of an inter - linking network of trails that connects parks,
residential, commercial, industrial and government areas to each other through a regional
trail network; and
WHEREAS, implementing strategies within the Transportation Element promote
programs for improving existing trails, such as removing barriers to make the trails safer,
more functional and more accessible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway
support for San Diego County's efforts to secure Stowe Trail for recreation, conservation
and as a wildlife corridor.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Poway at a
regular meeting this 15 day of May 2012.
