A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA
SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 85
THE CALIFORNIA LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION AND
RENOVATION BOND ACT OF 1988
WHEREAS, the public library is an enduring and important resource to people
of all ages, races and economic backgrounds and needs to be preserved; and
WHEREAS, many of the San Diego County Library facilities are of inadequate
size to provide needed services to their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Poway Branch of the San Diego County Library provides service
to citizens of Poway; and
WHEREAS, a state/local financial partnership is needed since public
libraries do not have the funds to remedy this problem of inadequate library
facilities; and
WHEREAS, the California Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 1988
will appear as Proposition 85 on the statewide ballot in November, 1988, and if
adopted, will create a grant program to construct and renovate local public
libraries; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 85 has received the endorsement of the California
Taxpayers Association, the League of California Cities, the California State PTA
and many other organizations, including the San Diego County Board of
Supervisors.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Poway that
the Council support Proposition 85, the California Library Construction and
Renovation Bond Act of 1988, which authorizes the issuance of $75 million in
state general obligation bonds for the purpose of financing a library construc-
tion and renovation program.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED, by the City Council of the City of Poway,
California, at a regular meeting therof this 25th day of October, 1988.
