A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA
NAMING THE WATER FILTP~ATION PLANT AT LAKE POWAY
THE LESTER J. BERGLUND WATER TREATMENT PLANT
IN HONOR OF HIS 39 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE
TO THE POWAY MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT AND CITY OF POWAY
WHEREAS, Lester J. Berglund was hired by the Poway Municipal Water
District on October 11, 1954 as a temporary employee to perform construction
assignments and embarked upon a career spanning four decades of public
service; and
WHEREAS, Les was responsible for installing water meters, repairing
lines and providing water systems maintenance; and
WHEREAS, by his own labor and under his supervision, the Poway water
system was expanded to serve High Valley, the newly-formed fire district and
the addition of the manmade reservoir at Lake Poway; and
WHEREAS, Les rose from a part-time employee to become Water Department
Superintendent, and following incorporation by the City of Poway on December
1, 1980 he became an essential part of the Public Services Department; and
WHEREAS, Les retired as Public Services Operations Manager on October
20, 1993 after 39 years of outstanding public service and tireless dedication
to providing for the infrastructure needs of the citizens of Poway;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved in honor of his long and distinguished
career in service to the Poway Municipal Water District and the City of Poway
that the City Council of the City of Poway does hereby resolve that the water
filtration plant at Lake Poway shall be named the Lester J. Berglund Water
Treatment Plant.
PASSED, ADOPTED and APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Poway,
California at a regular meeting this 9th day of November, 1993.
