Res 98-052RESOLUTION NO. 98-052 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING THE APPROVAL OF THE LIBRARY SALES TAX INITIATIVE ON THE MARCH 1999 BALLOT TO ENACT WITHIN SAN DIEGO COUNTY A ONE-QUARTER CENT SALES TAX FOR FIVE YEARS TO BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR LIBRARY IMPROVEMENTS WHEREAS, citizens throughout the San Diego County Region rely on their community libraries for a variety of services; and WHEREAS, current funding levels are insufficient to provide for essential library programs and operation; and WHEREAS, libraries serve youngsters from preschool to college, parents and seniors, as well as businesses; and WHEREAS, libraries are a vital part of each community; and WHEREAS, a sales tax rate increase of one-quarter cent for five years would generate approximate $75 million annually for the entire region and $6.7 million within the City of Poway; and WHEREAS, the San Diego County Regional Library Authority has approved the library sales tax initiative for placement on the March 1999 ballot; and WHEREAS, the San Diego County Regional Library Authority has requested that each member city formally support the approval of the library sales tax initiative. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Poway does hereby support the approval of the library sales tax initiative on the March 1999 ballot to enact within San Diego County a one-quarter cent sales tax for five years to be used exclusively for library improvements.
