A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA,
SUPPORTING FULL FUNDING OF THE
CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the City Council supports the preservation and restoration of
environmentally sensitive areas throughout the state of California; and
WHEREAS, the City of Poway, as a member of the San Dieguito River Park
Joint Powers Authority, has taken a leadership role in the preservation of the San
Dieguito River Valley and has supported the restoration of the San Dieguito coastal
lagoon; and
WHEREAS, the California Coastal Commission protects the coastal environment
and its critical biological habitats which fuel the California economy and provide
recreation for the state's residents; and
WHEREAS, the California Coastal Commission has experienced cutbacks in its
budget and staffing level in the recent past; and
WHEREAS, restoration of full funding will help tackle the backlog of more than
400 enforcement cases, follow-up on projects to determine the level of compliance with
permit conditions, process hundreds of emergency permits issued before and during
last winter's El Nifio storm season, update coastal plans for the state's 73 coastal cities
and counties, and thoroughly review 81 local coastal plans that are overdue, including
some that are delinquent by more than 12 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Poway hereby affirms their support of the importance of the California Coastal
Commission and full funding of its programming.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of
Poway, California, at a regular meeting thereof this 26th day of Janu~y_,) 1999.
