A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA IN RECOGNITION OF
ROBERT C. EMERY'S TEACHING RETIREMENT
SEPTEMBER 1965 TO JUNE 2001
WHEREAS, Robert C. Emery is the senior Councilmember, serving on the Poway City
Council since incorporation and recently re-elected to his sixth term; and
WHEREAS, Bob has devoted 36 years to educating youth in the Escondido and Orange
Glen School Districts; and
WHEREAS, Bob has enriched the lives of more than 4,000 Escondido youth who have
passed through his courses in U.S. History, World Geography, Student Government,
Yearbook, Newspaper, Science, and now Humanities; and
WHEREAS, Bob has touched lives as a Vice Principal at Orange Glen and as Librarian
at Hidden Valley; and
WHEREAS, twice, students have won countywide competitions by describing in an
essay contest their favorite teacher, Mr. Emery; and
WHEREAS, Bob has been honored by his district peers as a Teacher of the Year,
countywide he was singled out for his extensive service to teachers with the California
Teachers Association in the We Honor Ours recognition program, and currently he is in his
third year as President of the Escondido Elementary Educators Association; and
WHEREAS, Bob is retiring on June 7, 2001;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Poway
hereby applauds our respected colleague, Robert C. Emery, for his distinguished career as an
educator of 36 years.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Poway at the
regular meeting this 5th day of June 2001.
