TO: FROM: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council James L. Bowersox, City Mana~ John D. Fitch, Assistant City Manager ~')'\ ~ James R. Williams, Director of Public Services Douglas R. Hilliker, Water Utilities Manager INITIATED BY: DATE: June 6,1995 SUBJECT: Authorization to Sell andlor Scrap Package Wastewater Treatment Plant BACKGROUND During the height of the drought in March 1991, the City purchased a surplus "package wastewater treatment plant". The reason for purchasing this package plant was to supply treated wastewater for construction needs during the drought. However, because drought conditions began to ease and available water was less costly than the high costs associated with reclaimed treated water from this unit, this package plant was not put into operation. The plant was and is currently stored at the City's Lester J. Berglund Water Treatment Plant. FINDINGS Since the City does not have any current or future plans to use this thirty-year old package wastewater treatment unit, and since the space it occupies at the Berglund Water Treatment Plant will be needed for materials storage associated with the scheduled construction upgrades to the water treatment plant, staff recommends the sale andlor scrap of this unit to an interested party.
