Two bidders responded with proposals, ENVIRONMENTAl" REVIEW - This item is not subject to CEQA review. FISCAL IMPACT Poway's portion of the general maintenance bid price of $264,621.43 is approximately $57,866.83, not inclusive of emergency work, Sufficient funds are budgeted in the 1995/96 Lighting District budget for traffic signal, flashing beacon, safety light, and street light maintenance and related emergency work, ADDITIONAL PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND CORRESPONDENCE Copies of this report have been mailed to Southwest Signal Service and Signal Maintenance, Inc, RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council award the Traffic Signal Maintenance bid to Signal Maintenance, Inc, and the Street Lighting Maintenance bid to Southwest Signal Service, and to direct staff to execute the contract documents, ACTION - ~ 1 of 3 JUL 18 1995 ITEM 7 ..... -~-,-" .. --- ~ AGENDA REPOR' CITY OF POW A Y This report is included on the Consent Calendar. Nelson, Management Aide~ DATE: July 18, 1995 SUBJECT: Award of Bid for Traffic SilUlal and Street Li~tinll Maintenance and Emerrency Repair for the City of Poway BACKGROUND On April 16. 1991, the City Council approved the joint bid of the Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Maintenance Contract with the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Santee. That contract expired as of July I, 1995, Solicitations for traffic signal and street lighting maintenance bid proposals were advertised jointly by the cities, and a pre-bid conference held at the City of E1 Cajon on April 5, 1995. The specifications requested that contractors submit separate proposals for traffic signal maintenance and street lighting maintenance, FINDINGS The following two bid proposals were received on April 19, 1995: Sivnal Maintenance Inc, Yearly traffic signal maintenance $ 165,271.02 Yearly street lighting maintenance 125.745 57 TOTAL $ 291,016,59 ACTION: )) 2 of 3 JUL 1 8 1995 ITEM 7 ."4 - - Agenda Report - Award of Bid for Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Maintenance July 18. 1995 Page 2 Southwest Sivnal Maintenance Yearly traffic signal maintenance $ 219,860,98 Yearly street lighting maintenance 99.35041 TOTAL $ 319,211.39 All bidders were required to indicate if their proposal was for traffic signal maintenance, street light maintenance, or both, If both services were proposed, bid amounts for each service were to be itemized separately. Under the contract specifications, individual cities reserved the right to award contracts based on the low bidder for each particular service. The lowest bid for each service is $165,271.02 for traffic signals [Signal Maintenance], and $99,350.41 for street lights [Southwest Signal], totaling $264.621.43, This total is less than the combined total bids of either bidder.
