SUBJECT: Approval of the Lake Poway Rest Stop Eagle Scout Candidate Project
ABSTRACT
Andrew Luckham. a Poway Eagle Scout Candidate, approached the Recreational Trails Sub-Committee
requesting endorsement of a proposed rest stop at Lake Poway. He also requested $400 in funding for
materials. The Recreational Trails Sub-Committee supported the project and recommended the $400 be
funded through the Be~ Bendixon Trust Fund.
It is recommended that the City Council approve the rest stop project and appropriate $400 from the Bette
Bendixon Trust Fund.

Candidate Project
BACKGROUND
Andrew Luckham, a Poway Eagle Scout Candidate, approached the Recreational Trails
Sub-Committee on June 12, 1995, requesting endorsement of a proposed rest stop at
Lake Poway. He also requested $400 in funding for materials and submitted plans to the
Committee. The Committee requested that Andrew do a survey of trail users to identify an
appropriate location that would accommodate the trail and park users. The Committee
supported the project and recommended the $400 be funded through the Be~ Bendixon
Trust Fund.
FINDINGS
Andrew Luckham completed the survey and revised plans for the construction of a covered
rest stop on Pine Point located on the east side of Lake Poway. Sixty-six residents were
surveyed and sixty preferred that the location of the rest stop overlook Lake poway versus
the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. They also preferred having the rest stop located on the
east side of Lake Poway.
The plans have been reviewed and found acceptable by City staff. Boy Scout Troop 108
has agreed to adopt the rest stop for a one-year minimum maintenance period.
