The City Council approved the Poway Visitor Enhancement Program for 1995-96. The
budget is for $23,285 and includes $15,075 for the "Shop Poway" Program.

SUBJECT: Review and Approval of the Chamber of Commerce Hanging Shop
Poway Banners and the Use of City Crews to Install Them in the
Public Right of Way
BACKGROUND
The City Council approved the 1995-96 Poway Visitors Enhancement Program and
budget admi ni stered through the Poway Vi s i tor Committee of the Chamber of
Commerce. The main thrust is the "Shop Poway" Program. The budget for this is
$15,075. The Program is to start this month and will i nvo 1 ve merchant and
resident participation.
FINDINGS
This is to advise the City Council that the first phase of the Program is to
decorate Poway Road with light pole banners saying "Treasures of Poway. on top
with a treasure chest beneath it with the slogan "Shop in Poway ... Play in Poway
... Stay in Poway!" (see Attachment 1). The colors are to be blue and gold. The
banners are 2 1/2 ft by 8 ft and there will be 20 of them along Poway Road, going
from Pomerado Road to Garden Road. Some of the banners will replace the City
banners for Community Days on October 1. Others will go up immediately. All
banners will come down before Thanksgiving of 1995.
The Chamber is asking the City's Maintenance Crew to install these banners at
City cost. The est imated cost for putting the banners up is Sl,200 per
installation. This cost represents in kind labor; the cost of materials was
included as part of the original budget.
