SUBJECT: Sole Source Purchase of Valve Operator
ABSTRACT
The Public Services Department has budgeted for the purchase of one (1) truck-mounted hydraulic valve operator
to replace the obsolete electric valve operator currently in use. The operator is a sole source item and it is
recommended that the City Council authorize its purchase.

FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds are available for this purchase in account 0404-6199.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council waive the fonnal bidding requirement for this single source item and
authorize its purchase from PRES-TECH of Huntington Beach, CA for $11,300.

BACKGROUND
The Public Services DepartmentlWater Transmission and Distribution Division was approved a
budget allowance of $12,000 for Fiscal Year 1995/1996 for the purchase ofa new truck-mounted
hydraulic valve operator to replace the obsolete electric valve operator currently in use. The truck-
mounted hydraulic valve operator needed is available from one source, PRES-TECH of Huntington
Beach, CA for $11,300, It is requested that the City Council waive the formal bid process and
authorize its purchase.

The truck-mounted hydraulic valve operator needed is available from one source, PRES-TECH of
Huntington Beach, CA. It is requested that the City Council waive the formal bid process and authorize
the purchase of this operator from PRES-TECH for $11,300.
