Ord 768 ORDINANCE NO. 768
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 17.40 OF TITLE 17 (ZONING)
OF THE POWAY MUNICIPAL CODE
PERTAINING TO SIGNS
(ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT 14-001)
WHEREAS, it is necessary from time to time to amend the Poway Municipal
Code (PMC) to reflect changing conditions in the community; and
WHEREAS, on February 19, 2013, the City Council approved temporary sign
regulations for a one-year trial period for commercial businesses with outdoor
display that is permitted by right in the underlying zone; and
WHEREAS, on January 21, 2014, the City Council discussed the trial period
and directed staff to prepare an Ordinance to amend the PMC to make the sign
regulations permanent; and
WHEREAS, on March 4, 2014, the City Council held a duly advertised public
hearing to solicit comments from the public, both pro and con, relative to this
Ordinance.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: The City Council finds that the adoption of this Ordinance is exempt
from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act pursuant to Section
15061(b)(3) of the CEQA Guidelines because it pertains to minor modifications to the
sign regulations in the Zoning Ordinance and that there is no possibility this will have
a significant effect on the environment.
Section 2: Section 17.40.240 of Chapter 17.40, entitled Comprehensive Sign
Regulations, of Title 17 of the Poway Municipal Code, is amended by adding a new
Class 8 to the table to read as follows:

Section 3: This Ordinance shall be codified.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30)
days after its adoption.
CERTIFICATION/PUBLICATION: The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this
Ordinance and cause it or a summary of it, to be published with the names of the City
Council members voting for and against the same in the Poway News Chieftain, a
newspaper of general circulation in the City of Poway, within fifteen (15) days after its
adoption and shall post a certified copy of this Ordinance in the Office of the City Clerk
in accordance with Government Code § 36933.
Introduced and first read at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of
Poway held the 4th day of March 2014, and thereafter PASSED AND ADOPTED at a
regular meeting of said City Council held the 18th day of March 2014.
