A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POWAY, CALIFORNIA
AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA
DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND FIRE PROTECTION FOR THE PROPOSITION 12
URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California in cooperation with the
California State Legislature has enacted Proposition 12, which provides funds to the State
of California and its political subdivisions for urban forestry programs; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has been
delegated the responsibility for the administration of the program within the State, setting
up necessary procedures governing application by local agencies and nonprofit
organizations under the program; and
WHEREAS, said procedures established by the State Department of Forestry and
Fire Protection require the applicant to certify by resolution the approval of application
before submission of said application to the State; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection provides
grants to finance rehabilitation projects that will revitalize the natural lands with the planting
of new trees; and
WHEREAS, the City of Poway will submit a grant application and, if awarded, will
enter into an agreement with the State of California to carry out a tree planting project.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Poway as
follows:
Section 1. The Public Works Department is authorized to submit an application to
the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for Proposition 12 tree planting
grant program funds to rehabilitate existing environmental decaying natural lands with new
trees within the City.
Section 2. The City of Poway has sufficient funds to begin, operate, and maintain
the projects.
Section 3. The City of Poway will expend grant funds prior to March 1, 2006.
Section 4. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and empowered to
execute in the name of the City of Poway all necessary documents to implement and carry
out the purpose of this resolution, and to undertake all actions necessary to undertake and
complete the rehabilitation projects.
Section 5. If recommended for a funding award by the California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection, the City Council authorizes the City to accept grant funding
up to $37,729.00.
